The modern day domestic dog dates back to 16,000 - 30,000 years ago. Humans had taken over the wolves territory and they were beginning to become hungry. The wolves began to notice that the humans would leave scraps of food on the ground so began to stay around the humans and eat there scraps as it was much easier than hunting. The humans began to let the tamest wolves stay around them and the wolves would become tamer and tamer. The wolves would also help to stop other predators harassing the humans.
Scientists suggested that the first dogs were dogs domesticated south of the Yangtze River in China.
